Eclectic Affinities

The exhibition “Eclectic Affinities – Hamid Zénati and the Collection of the Museum of Applied Arts” is dedicated to the work of the German-Algerian artist Hamid Zénati (1944–2022). For over six decades, Zénati worked with a wide variety of materials, developing a distinctive visual language. His intensely colored, ornamental patterns follow no hierarchy but rather completely fill surfaces – a principle he himself described as “all-over.” The exhibition presents his works in dialogue with selected objects from the museum’s collection and illuminates how Zénati dissolved the boundaries between art, design, and everyday aesthetics. For this exhibition, MARTINCOLOR created the exterior signage and the wallpaper for the exhibition spaces. Our large-format prints contribute to shaping the exhibition’s atmosphere and placing Zénati’s works in a harmonious spatial context. The MARTINCOLOR installation team also handled the wallpapering in the exhibition spaces. This resulted in a coherent overall picture that impressively supports Hamid Zénati's artistic style.
