George Benjamin's opera “Written on Skin” has just celebrated its premiere at Frankfurt Opera. MARTINCOLOR was commissioned to produce numerous objects for the stage design of this impressive production, allowing the company to showcase its core expertise in large-format printing, special constructions and LED elements.
A special moment awaited the audience in the final act. Three round LED illuminated objects with diameters of 120, 200 and 275 centimeters were used. The frames were made from specially manufactured round aluminum profiles and have a construction depth of 16 centimeters. A circumferential groove allows the textile covering to be inserted precisely. The motifs show the world in three different sizes. They were printed in our in-house print shop. Our sewing department then tailored the fabrics so that they could be inserted perfectly into the large-format round frames.
In the final scene, these luminous world discs unfolded their effect and significantly shaped the atmosphere of the scene. Light, format and motif merged into an impressive stage moment.
In addition to the LED objects, MARTINCOLOR also created the trees for the production. The motifs were printed on fabric and processed so that they could be applied precisely to the existing tubular substructure.
Productions like this show what makes our work special. Design, printing, manufacturing and assembly preparation all work together seamlessly. Everything is done under one roof. This ensures the best quality, short distances and maximum control over every detail. We are proud to have supported the Frankfurt Opera in this special premiere.
